6x9 Speakers Buyers Guide

What to look for in 6x9 speakers?

You will be able to shop in a more succinct and comparative way, since your size parameters are predetermined.

Similar to the way their structure is set up, speakers are classified into groups. For a pair of good car speakers, the minimum class you want to look at is a 2-way thing that deals effectively with lower sounds and something better suited to higher frequency motion.

The way speakers work is relatively easy and since their initial conception, very little has changed.

Based in a magnetic field is a rigid cone attached to a speech coil. The circuitry receives audio as an electrical signal that disturbs the field and allows the components and a second fixed magnet to attract and repel them. The cones are driven in and out in a piston-like manner as the field continuously changes from negative to positive. This disperses a lot of air and at high frequencies, produces heat.

Because each end of the frequency spectrum affects the cone in a very different way, designing a speaker system that has at least 2 types of cones dedicated to the different demands to which they will be subjected is the optimal solution for audio that is free of distortion.

However a 3-way class is even more desirable, making sure that the mid-range is not ignored. To have much stronger bass, some 3-way systems can add a woofer.

Sometimes referred to as super tweeters, tweeters and ultra high-frequency tweeters have elevations that sound less harsh or tinny. Things can sound a little muddy or muffled without a tweeter. The tweeters are designed to withstand the high-speed movements inflicted on them by generating high notes from high-frequency electrical signals. Tweeter designs are important, they must allow cooling and they are typical of a much smaller size to be made from heat resistant components.

If you have an understanding of the speaker class system you are searching for you will begin to concentrate on the components used and construct quality. The class system names the arrangement of speaker cones only and does not apply to the product's consistency. Most of the best-selling ones we have used today are well-made examples of what to expect from a good pair of speakers considering their respective prices.

Usually, speaker cones are made of paper composites, with some versions featuring some pretty cutting-edge compositions to compete with each other. We have looked at today at the price level, surrounds are usually rubber or plastic (rubber is preferable) tweeters are usually silk or some other woven material.

They do not differ immensely from each other, as you would have found in our reviews, so the main thing after we have ticked scale, class, and consistency off is how many watts you have to power it, how much power you want to allow for it and how feasible this is given the constraints of your given budget.

To summarise, for your allocated budget, you will be searching for the best-built pair in an acceptable device class with the best performance you can find.

Best overall 6x9 speakers?

The Kenwood package that we have tested are very simply in a class above the rest, regardless of their lower peak power handling. They serve to set up an excellent 5-way class structure which means they are much better suited to produce high fidelity sound. Although you won't be able to crank them up as much as some we've looked at the audio is some of the best sound around and they offer undeniable value for money given that their cost is on par with some of the lesser-class systems.

Best budget 6x9 speakers?

The JBL stage set is our lowest price set, the pioneers are just above them somewhere but we think it's important to note that you can get your mitts on the Kenwood 5-way class set for around $20 more.

Best 6x9 speakers for Bass?

The Rockford Fosgate package, consisting of premium parts and advanced DSP on board to provide great sound, is the best quality bass-capable speakers we have reviewed here today. The bass is meatier than the deal from Kenwoods (another high-class category pair). They are the best for bass, but they have a slightly higher price tag than some.

If your budget clearly does not extend to the Rockford's asking price, then our favourite 3-way bass class package is the JVC CS, whose optimal class category includes a dedicated Mica woofer to handle low-frequency pumping sourced from stable and durable parts. They are incredibly low priced and can reach peak powers of about 400 watts at peak power.

If you're looking for something less meaty that still has excellent bass capabilities, you should go instead for the JBL package, they're an equally impressive pair with an inexpensive price tag and a dedicated woofer to provide distortion-free bass.

Best quality 6x9 speakers?

All of those we have looked at today are basically high quality and they come from some of the most reputable manufacturers of speakers around. It's a tough one to call, but if we had to choose the best quality winner, the front-running package is the Kenwood, but we vote for the Alpine set if you're explicitly looking for a 3-way class setup. If you shop on more than a shoestring budget, then you should choose the Pioneers, the company produces some fantastic low-cost items, and their overall sound is very difficult to beat at this price.

Conclusion

In recent times, the quantity of affordable choices for high quality audio speakers is actually astounding. While not having conceptually altered anything, technology has come a long way.

We tend to benefit from continuous enhancement, refining, refinement and perfecting of parts and their circuitry for products whose purpose is simple and remains largely unchanged. Fortunately for consumers, this ensures that most of the low-cost electrical products out there are filled with premium bits from yesterday and usually have high-quality audio regardless of their low-cost tags ( another advantage of tech progression is lowered production costs).

If you bear in mind our main advice and can read the specs with a better perspective thanks to the light shed by our insightful buyer's guide, you will certainly find the package that suits you best.

Expert Tip

You will also find that the price between one model and another with a step up in capabilities is pretty nominal in busy markets filled with goods. In general, competitive markets are still prone to price volatility, so keep your eyes on the award and you could take a steal from yourself.
